The rule applies to students whose work permits will expire between January and December 2022. These students are eligible to apply for additional open work, which will remain valid for up to 18 months.

The extension policy will be effective in “summer 2022” and as per IRCC, it is looking for a streamlined, quick process to implement it. IRCC will release more details in the coming weeks.
